JS Giguere, who is now back from injury, has made it public that he does not intend to be a back up goaltender for long. The problem that lies in that statement is that current goaltender, Jonas Hiller, is the number one guy in Anaheim. Giguere's comments could mean that he may very well be on the way out.
"I'd rather retire than be a backup goalie," Giguere said to the L.A. Daily News. "Something needs to happen. You get a guy like (Hiller) that's going to be a free agent at the end of the year and myself, making the money I'm making, either I'm leaving or he's leaving. I want to play; that's when I have fun. Right now, this is not fun."
The 32 year old Canadian has one Stanley Cup under his belt, and also one more year left on his current $6M per season cap hit. He has a career 2.49 goals against average and a 0.914 SV%.
There are reports of a potential deal that would send Giguere to Toronto in return for Vesa Toskala, though one would have to assume that Giguere is worth more than just a cap dump.
